Safety Quality Field Supervisor

Department: Safety
Location: Lincoln, AL

Directly interact with auto haulers by observing and coaching to reduce cargo damages and promote best practices and to increase safety behaviors to avoid injury.  Responsible for providing administrative and clerical services to the Safety Department in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate general operations.  This includes, but is not limited to, compliance documentation.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

"Essential functions" are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer.

  1. Ensure vehicles are safely loaded for transport.
  2. Assist auto haulers with achieving damage free deliveries to designated dealerships.
  3. Perform and sign off on truck and load audits.
  4. Validate that pre-loading inspections are being performed.
  5. Make sure that auto haulers are performing mandated truck loading procedures to eliminate injuries and damages.
  6. Report all Safety and Quality concerns immediately to the respective terminal manager and the Safety and Quality Managers.
  7. Submit daily reports of who, what, where, when and why)
  8. Investigate problem route inspections, as needed.
  9. Act as a goodwill ambassador for all auto haulers while performing these tasks.
  10. Resolve issues and follow through with ideas on how to reduce damages in the terminal.
  11. Complete any and all tasks assigned by management.
  12. Provide basic support and guidance on the HOS rules and regulations and the basic functions of ELDs. 
  13. Provide support and guidance to execute best practices as it relates to the CSA process to reduce RSI violations
  14. Support the Controlled Substance and Alcohol policy and the associated FMCSA rules and regulations
  15. Exercise random truck inspections
  16. Provide support and accident investigative needs when applicable.
  17. Promote changes in Safety and DOT regulations and policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Minimum two (2) years’ experience working in a Safety
  2. Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in the auto transportation industry.
  3. Minimum five (5) years’ yard supervision experience, preferably in the auto-hauling industry.
  4. Knowledge of the HOS rules and regulations and the Federal DOT regulations.
  5. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  6. TMW or other routing and scheduling software experience a plus.
  7. Knowledge of PeopleNet a plus.
  8. Ability to rapidly analyze issues, establish priorities, anticipate consequences, make decisions and initiate action.
  9. Comfortable working in a high-stress environment and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with dispatchers and drivers.
  11. Strong communication skills (oral, written and listening) with motivational ability.
  12. Strong leader and team player
  13. Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain when performing essential duties.  Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions and stressed dispatchers and drivers.
  14. Work will be required on weekends and some holidays.
  15. Certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid (VTC will assist with training)
  16. Certified in Reasonable Suspicion. (VTC will assist with training)
